Built in 1760, this historic Scottish hotel has a modern warm welcome for all.
Sixteen rooms, a 40 cover restaurant where almost everything on the menu is made start to finish in our kitchen, an event space with its own private bar, and a public bar that welcomes locals and visitors alike, plus a private car park for residents behind the hotel. On the High Street in Moffat, a mile off the M74, on the main route between England and the Highlands.

Every room has been redecorated since we took the hotel on, and the pictures here are the rooms as they are now. Fifteen are en-suite, and one has its own private bathroom just across the corridor. Most have both a bath and a shower.
Two of the rooms are family suites: a double with its own twin room attached, sharing the bathroom. Cycle tours, car clubs and wedding parties often take the whole house.
We have three dog friendly rooms, which can only be booked directly with the hotel itself.

The restaurant
Dinner every night in season.
Signature pies, fishcakes, soups, bread rolls and puddings, made here in our own kitchen. 32 day aged steaks on the grill, and look out for our more special dishes: marinated lamb chump in our own lamb jus, and chicken in a tarragon and white wine sauce. Good pub food from proper ingredients, at prices that mean you can come back next week. Residents and non-residents are equally welcome.
The Sunday carvery
Everyone says theirs is the best roast in town. We will let you be the judge, but we are confident. The kitchen starts at 7am and everything is prepared that morning, ready for 12 noon: three roast meats carved to order, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings.
On a busy Sunday we have been known to serve 100, so booking is advised.

Light and airy, thistle wallpaper, painted blue and French grey, with the fire at the end and hill top views through the windows.

Nearly everything on the menu is made here, from the signature pies to the Yorkshire puddings.

The bar is open to everyone, staying or not, and our draught beer is fairly priced. Through the doorways is the bar lounge, papered in the same "Happy Hour" wallpaper, where the musicians set up on music nights. Out the back, the hill view courtyard catches the evening sun.

Sheltered from the High Street, with views up to the hills, and in the sun on a summer evening. Open to all until 8pm, then to hotel guests.

Dan Bevins and Rob Craig, supported by their three teenage children who also work at the hotel, took on the Annandale Arms in 2024. And not forgetting the family dog, Dale, who makes appearances along the way. The builders did the outside. Inside, they did most of it themselves: two new bars, replastering, wallpaper, and every bedroom painted, along with the function room and the whole ground floor.
The idea was a hotel that is relaxed and open to everyone: walkers, couples, families, people stopping on the way north, and the town itself.
A good place to stop, and a better place to stay.
Moffat sits a mile off the motorway, on the main road north to the Highlands, with the river Annan running parallel to the High Street just behind the hotel. It is a Dark Sky Town, so on a clear night you can see the stars from the High Street, and the Grey Mare's Tail, the fifth highest waterfall in the UK, is a short drive up the valley.
